8-Week Pilates 101 Workshop

The Pilates Body will offer an 8-week Pilates Level I workshop to beginning, returning and current students (age 18 and over) who wish to explore the benefits of Pilates exercise and movement, or perhaps revisit the fundamentals and fine tune a present practice. Pilates 101 is a fun and economical way to learn Pilates matwork and apparatus exercises (the Universal Reformer and Springboards, a take on the Trapeze Table, will be used). The workshop will be limited to 5 participants to keep the sessions more personalized and efficient. Once the workshop is completed, students may transition into our regular group apparatus classes and bypass the 4 to 8 private apparatus sessions the studio normally requires.

The workshop consists of

  • A quick history of the work, the basic biomechanical concepts, and the specific physical and psychological benefits the Pilates method provides.

  • An overview of the basic principles of Pilates, including proper breathing, abdominal, upper back, and head/neck placement-these are essential “mini-exercises” to help you get “deeper” into the more advanced exercises.

  • Master the complete Pilates Level I matwork, reformer and springboard work-outs, and how to integrate body and mind with the assistance of the apparatus.

  • Learn common exercise modifications to suit your body’s needs as well as discover contemporary exercise variations to further challenge your fitness practice.
