Tell us a bit about your fitness background. How did you discover Pilates and what inspired you to become an instructor?

Shortly after moving to LA 9 years ago, I took my first private Pilates session. I was recovering from a low back injury, so my doctors recommended that I try Pilates. I felt amazing after my first session and was instantly hooked. Pilates quickly became an important part of my life.

I began practicing Pilates 3-5 times a week. My instructors and studio mates became some of my best friends. Eager to learn more, I enrolled in Balanced Body’s instructor training program one year later. I’ve been teaching for 6 years now and I love it more and more!

What is your philosophy of training?

Find what you love and be consistent. I’ve found that 3 Pilates sessions a week is the magic number for my body. I try to add in extra workouts when I can, but I’m not hard on myself if it doesn’t happen one week. Find a routine that works for you and stick to it.

Greatest strengths?

Encouraging my clients and celebrating their successes. I’m not going to lie, I get a little emotional when my clients nail a move for the first time!

Healthy eating tips?

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Drinking enough water is important for so many reasons. Recently, I’ve been trying to drink half my body weight in ounces. If I’m super active or outside in the heat, I try to drink more. It’s kind of amazing the difference it makes.

Favorite healthy food hangout?

It’s not really a hangout, but I love to swing by Whole Foods for a quick healthy meal. I’m a sucker for their Spicy Pacific Salad Rolls!

Training tips?

Move your body and don’t judge the quality of your movement. If you spend your time focusing on what your body can’t do at a given moment, you won’t fully appreciate what it CAN do.

What is your biggest fitness inspiration?

My mom. Her weekly fitness routine includes Pilates, Yoga, Barre, Spinning and chasing after my two little nieces. Plus she’s always trying out new classes at her gym back in Baltimore. When I’m home visiting, she always has a few classes lined up for us to do together. My mom rarely gets sick and rarely complains about physical ailments. She’s a testament to the importance of staying active as we age.

Favorite fitness fashion?

Lululemon High Times pants! They stay put and let me focus on my workout rather than the fact that my pants are falling down.

Any other hobbies and interests?

My husband and I recently adopted a wild little pug-mix puppy named Poe. She’s totally adorable and a little nuts! Little Poe certainly keeps us on our toes! In the summertime, I love to catch outdoor concerts at the Hollywood Bowl or The Greek. When it’s not super hot, I enjoy hiking or running in Griffith Park.
