On October 15, 2016, The Pilates Body invited the local community to “Raise the Barre” at their free fitness open house. Saturday’s event focused on TPB’s mission to combat chronic pain using the Pilates method. All donations went towards the AARDA Autoimmune Walk, a cause that has personally impacted the lives of clients and instructors at The Pilates Body.
Seasoned instructor Cindy Basco kicked off the event with stretching and tension release during her Pilates foam roller workshop. Next, newcomers and clients got their sweat on in Amanda Charles’ Reformer class, and sampled the burn with Tracy Ramsay’s BarreFierce method (a combination of Dynamic Pilates and Barre Conditioning).
Guests then gathered for a sneak preview of TPB’s all new Be Free techniques, geared towards anyone experiencing chronic pain (especially caused by autoimmunity). Pilates for Pain Management classes utilizing these methods will launch in 2017. Co-creators Kelly Tourgeman and Tracy Ramsay presented the Be Free mission, as everyone was invited to try various exercises from the repertoire.
Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed a wide variety of delicious wraps courtesy of Chop Stop Glendale, as well as healthy snacks from Karen of Jenny Craig Burbank. Evolution’s refreshing juices packed a post-workout punch, providing an energy boost for participants between classes. After class, guests could enjoy a taste of FitVine Wine, created specifically for active lifestyles. For those looking to stay ahead on the fashion front, Katina Weaver set up a trunk show of her gorgeous KDW Apparel designs – and generously donated proceeds to the AI Walk. Los Angeles Autoimmune Walk Ambassador Haley Ramm even stopped by to show her support!
The event concluded with a raffle featuring generous donations from Onzie, Rah.Designs, Chop Stop, Grain Lab, FoodbyBri, JJ Flores, Jacquie Potter, CalasanzCreative Designs, and of course, free Pilates from TPB!
Guests left the party with free swag bags full of samples courtesy of Raw Revolution, Crunchmaster, Jenny Craig, Onzie, Yoga-urt, Wax Bar L.A., and Chop Stop.
Thanks to the support of their sponsors and the community, The Pilates Body Team met their $5,000 benchmark goal for AARDA, and will continue to raise money until they reach their goal of $7,000 for the Los Angeles Autoimmune Walk on November 5th. Instructors and clients will be walking to raise awareness and find a cure for the 50 million people affected by autoimmune disease. The TPB community has found Pilates to be a saving grace in pain management – however, there is still so much more medical research needed to discover more proactive treatments, means of quicker diagnosis, and cures.
Missed out on the event? No sweat – please visit The Pilates Body team page to read TPB’s personal stories or make a donation.
Owner Kelly Tourgeman is moved by the amount of clients who have come forward with their own stories of how Pilates has allowed them to feel in control of their bodies again. “It is my hope that by participating in this walk and cause that not only cures will be found, but also quicker means to diagnose and begin proactive treatment.”
